Abstract | Using data from a sample of 69 households in Ukunda village, Kenya, the traditional approach to the modeling of water demand for villages in developing countries is compared with an approach using a discrete choice model of the household's water source decision. The latter approach showed that the choice of a water source (open wells, water vendors, water kiosks) was affected by the time taken to collect the water, the price of water, and the number of women in the household, but income had no statistically significant effect. |
