Abstract

Ten keynote papers from the International Conference on Water and the Environment are presented in this volume. The Conference was designated to give a comprehensive view of the present global water situation, and to prepare issues for discussion at the first Earth Summit in June 1992. The first two papers present a detailed assessment of present-day resources. The following papers develop the topics of drinking water and sanitation, including water borne diseases, water quality issues, hygiene education and public health. Water for agricultural production and industry is then discussed, including present water requirements and projections for the future. Economic issues, management issues, institutional issues and case studies are presented throughout the papers.
