Reaching 23,000 people in 11 villages

Ouolodo is a commune that is part of the Kolokani ‘Cercle’, a sub-division of the Koulikoro region. This is one of nine regions in the country and is located about 100 km north of the capital, Bamako. Ouolodo has 11 villages, and the population of 15,000 (in 2017) is expected to grow to 23,000 by 2030.

By first focusing on water and sanitation in health care facilities

In 2018, the Mayor of Ouolodo, IRC and World Vision, developed a master plan to achieve the delivery of WASH services to everyone in the commune by 2030. The first step is to achieve 100% coverage in all health care facilities.  In Ouolodo, only one of the three health care facilities had basic water services (in 2019).  Partners are also working on improving WASH services in schools and reaching every household in the commune by 2030. The plan has inspired and driven political buy-in and serves as a roadmap for implementation. It helped set a vision and the steps needed to achieve.

Requiring 231,000 US Dollar

In 2020, IRC supported the commune in conducting a finance study to better understand the costs and gaps related to the 2030 vision. The total capital requires at that time was estimated at 231,000 US Dollar.
