Five civil society organisations in Asutifi North District received grants to carry out public education and sensitisation around issues of equity and inclusion

ANAM Small Grant winners with Nananom of the Kenyasi traditional area
Five local civil society organisations (CSOs) that were announced as winners of the Asutifi North Ahonidie Mpontuo (ANAM) small grant call on Monday 5 July 2021 at the District Assembly Hall in Kenyasi, Asutifi North District, have received their respective grants.
The five CSOs - SUDEF Ghana, GADeF International, Phanuel Global Health Foundation, Firm Foundation, and Universal Rehabilitation Centre - are given a total grant value of fifty thousand Ghana cedis (50,000 GHS) for excellence in the development of proposals to carry out public education and sensitisation in the district to complement efforts of the ANAM partners. The ANAM initiative seeks to promote universal access to safe water, basic sanitation, and hygiene services to about 84,420 people by the year 2030.
"Achieving universal access to safe and affordable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for all by 2030 requires collective effort including support for CSOs to effectively engage and empower citizens to deliver set targets, leaving no one behind. IRC Ghana in collaboration with the Asutifi North District Assembly with the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation are hosting the award of the ANAM Small Grant for selected CSOs in Asutifi North District to carry out public education and sensitisation around issues of equity and inclusion - through advocacy and engagement with the people to build popular support and transparency within the initiative. I congratulate and entreat all grantees to utilise the resources in supporting this process as outlined in their activity-based workplans," said IRC Ghana Country Director, Vida Duti.
IRC Ghana in collaboration with the Asutifi North District Assembly launched the ANAM Small Grant Opportunity in April 2021, calling on CSOs operating in Asutifi North District to develop advocacy initiatives in five categories:
The aim is to support selected CSOs in Asutifi North District to carry out public education and sensitisation in the above categories to complement ongoing efforts by the ANAM partners. At the close of submissions on May 15, 2021, 12 proposals were received in the first 4 of the 5 categories above. These were screened and assessed by an independent jury to determine the deserving winners.
The winners are split across the first four categories above – categories 1- 4. The first two categories (1 & 2) and the last two (3 & 4) respectively registered one overall winner. Category 1 also recorded first and second runners-up, and category 2 registered first runner-up. There was no runner-up for categories 3 & 4. All twelve local CSOs who expressed interest and submitted proposals were recognised with honorary awards in the form of certificates of encouragement and commendation for responding to the call.

Global Alliance for Development Foundation (GADeF) International, 1st winner, got 15,000 GHS for meeting the overall criteria of the call with clear WASH/WRM activities centred on youth and children, faith-based organisations and PWDs; to engage and collaborate with youth parliament and children assembly; develop ANAM WASH App and use of sustainable development committees; develop and use an innovative citizen engagement approach with platform actors, leaders and ANAM WASH Ambassadors.
Emmanuel Marfo, Founder of GADeF and 1st winner in categories 3 and 4 said upon receiving the grant, “I am ecstatic to have won this award as the best overall grantee for the ANAM WASH. It means a lot to us, and we are grateful to have been a part of it. We were involved in the preparation of the master plan as CSOs. So, receiving these honours in these categories, which include reducing inequalities in allocation of resources for WASH services and improving IWRM is a big deal. Our innovation is aimed at gaining community support and continuing to engage on advocacy to promote the initiative. We're also working on an App that will allow children and youth who are major stakeholders to write articles on the programme's success. We're also collaborating with traditional leaders, who will serve as the project's ambassadors. Finally, we are building the capacity of various stakeholders to mobilise support and raise priorities when it comes to the SDGs with committees and assembly members – to prioritise WASH in their budget allocation.”

Sustainable Development Focus Ghana (SUDEF GHANA) – 1st winner (Category 1 & 2), received 15,000 GHS for meeting the overall criteria of the call with clear hand hygiene and GESI outputs and activities; strong CVs of implementing actors and NGO profile. They introduce a novel hand hygiene district learning platform to feed into the mainstream district learning alliance platform. It is set to educate, sensitise, and motivate communities, schools and health institutions on hand hygiene.
Phanuel Global Health Foundation receives grant cheque as 2nd winner (Category 1)
Phanuel Global Health Foundation – 2nd winner (Category 1), gets 7500 GHS for meeting the criteria with a proposed hand hygiene approach that is consistent with the outputs and targeting school children; and a range of local groups involving market women and communities.
Firm Foundation and Environment receives grant cheque as 2nd winner (Category 2)
Firm Foundation and Environment - 2nd winner (Category 2), receives 7500 GHS for meeting the overall criteria for the call with GESI advocacy activities involving assembly members, unit committees, churches and mosques among others, aimed at influencing decision making on project planning and implementation.
Universal Rehabilitation Centre receives grant cheque as 3rd winner (Category 1)
Universal Rehabilitation Centre – 3rd winner (Category 1), gets 5000 GHS for meeting the criteria of the call with proposed activities cutting across the WASH spectrum with hand hygiene engagements and sensitisation in over 20 communities.

The grant event brought together local government officials, directors of education, local CSOs, development partners, traditional leaders, the IRC senior leadership team, Hilton grantee partners, Latter-day Saint Charities, media, and Assembly members.
