The standard approach of financing is not sufficient and not appropriate for long term financing needs of water companies. Water Financing Facilities are a potential mechanism to mobilise additional finance for the sector. They pull utilities and their projects together reducing risk and therefore creating the possibility for longer term loans at considerably lower interest rates.

Groundwater cannot be found everywhere. If properly located, a borehole can provide a good supply of water. If it is not, it will fail resulting in wasted investment. This short film on borehole siting is part of a joint 2-year initiative of UNICEF, WaterAid and Skat, under the auspices of the Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) to promote more professional drilling. As part of the World Water Day 2015 events organised in Addis Ababa, the My Water, My Business events brought attention to the efforts of households to improve their own water supplies. This included the 'Self-supply Seminar: promoting local initiative and business to help all Ethiopian's access safe water supplies' on 20 March 2015 and a parallel fair where Ethiopian enterprises showcased their low-cost products. What do you do when you don't have a toilet at home? Relieving oneself out in the open is not as simple as one might think, especially for women. This is a story on the challenges women face on a daily basis when they've got no choice but to relieve themselves out in the open.
Meet Asmao Diallo, from the rural community of Gorgadji, in the Sahel region of Burkina Faso. Like 94% of Burkina Faso's rural population, her family did not have a toilet at home- until recently. In this video, Ms Diallo explains the challenges and risks she faced every day in the search of a place to relieve herself, as well as how the père de famille's decision to build a traditional latrine changed her life.
This video is the first in a series of three that aim to give a voice to Burkina Faso's women living in rural communities, where women rarely have the opportunity to express their concerns about defecating in the open, and where women barely have a say in making household decisions on the construction of a latrine.
