Abstract

The report is aimed at the drinking water supply by water utilities in Indonesia and the opportunities offered by this sector to Dutch enterprises. At least 80 per cent of Indonesia's 215 million inhabitants are not connected to piped water supply. For years cities and industrial sites have relied on groundwater to meet their demands. An alternative will have to be found for groundwater as a source for water supply as groundwater depletion is leading to intrusion of seawater and ground subsidence is threatening human health as well as roads and bridges.
