Abstract | Cross-training encourages employees to acquire a broad range of knowledge and skills that go beyond their regular jobs. It lowers labour expenses, increases job stability, spurs job interest, and opens the door to more effective and open communication. In emergencies, cross-trained employees will be more prepared to respond. Because of shift rotation, lack of continuity on maintenance projects can be a problem. It also can be difficult to recruit candidates who have experience - or are willing to accept responsibility - in multiple areas. Differences in job aptitude or work habits also need to be addressed. |
