Guest Blogger: Chief of Party, USAID Transform WASH | PSI
Monte Achenbach is currently serving as Chief of Party for the 5-year USAID Transform WASH project with PSI in Ethiopia. He is a seasoned project leader with over 15 years of technical and managerial marketing and communications experience. His background spans multiple health areas, including HIV, family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RP), water and sanitation, maternal and child health, malaria, TB, cervical cancer, and health financing. Mr. Achenbach's technical expertise includes implementing new market development approaches, managing social franchise programs, supervising health product launch campaigns, and executing behavior change communication (BCC) activities. In his most recent previous role as Country Representative for PSI/Kenya, he provided management and technical assistance to one of PSI's largest and most diverse country programs, with an annual budget of more than $30 million. He also served as Technical Advisor for PSI in Cambodia, where he co-led the development of a new framework and model for PSI's Total Market Approach for HIV prevention. Finally, Mr. Achenbach worked as a media producer for Spark Media and as a program officer for the National Democratic Institute, where he managed democratic development programs in Nepal, Haiti, and West Africa. He holds a Master's in Social Change and Development and in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University, a Master's in Communication from American University, and speaks English, Spanish, French, and Nepali.
