Speakers from government and NGOs will discuss the importance of integrating a water resource management framework in drinking water programmes.
Nearly half (45%) of the population in India suffers from high to severe water stress, according to NITI Aayog. 90% of the rural drinking water and 48% of the urban drinking water is supplied by groundwater which is under tremendous stress. As per the Government of India (GoI) record, around 600 million people are vulnerable to water insecurity.
Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Atal Bhujal Yojna recognize the importance of managing water resources to ensure the source sustainability of drinking water. While Water For People India's focus is also on ensuring universal access to safe and sustained water services, it is becoming imperative to integrate a water resource management (WRM) approach in our interventions.
