Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were eight goals, formulated in 2000, that all 189 UN Member States have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015. These goals aimed to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation, and discrimination against women. MDG 7 on ensuring environmental sustainability include target 7C to “halve, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation”.
