Because we believe we will achieve greater impact by sharing resources and knowledge in the lead-up to 2030. Simply put, we believe we can do more toward achieving SDG 6 – and do it better – by joining forces. To date we have developed a joint vision for 2030 (Destination 2030) and we are currently working on the accompanying strategy to deliver the vision with specific 2025 and 2030 targets. We are concurrently working together on joint proposals and programs with exploration and planning continuing throughout 2021 and beyond.
History of the partnership
In February 2020, IRC and Water For People announced the creation of a Strategic Partnership. Shortly thereafter, we began the process of intensive investigation and consultation with employees and stakeholders around this new initiative. In July 2020, a Letter of Intent to formally develop the Strategic Partnership was signed by both organizations. The evolution of the Strategic Partnership is ongoing.
This partnership came to fruition because IRC and Water For People have long shared the vision that everyone in the world should have safe water and sanitation services that last forever. Over recent years, it has become clear that we also share deep, fundamental beliefs about how to achieve this. Namely, by supporting systems change and sector transformation to accelerate progress in the 15 countries where we collectively work. In other words, we believe we can do more together to reach more people more quickly.
At an earlier stage, in 2015, IRC and Water For People co-founded the Agenda for Change initiative alongside other industry partners. Together with the 14 members of Agenda for Change, we continue to promote a systems approach that addresses the biggest challenges to sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
Now, we are taking our collaboration a step further by entering into a formal strategic partnership.
