Abstract

Building on the theme of World Water Day 2022, the factsheet focuses on the link between groundwater and self-supply, defined as the provision of water through the initiative of households, and usually at their own expense. The factsheet provides data on how many people rely on self supply from groundwater, and explains why self-supply is crucial and why supporting self-supply is effective. It tells what WASH professionals, governments, academia, funders and implementers can do to help self-supply reach its potential.
