Abstract

The fourth annual report of the World Bank documenting its efforts to incorporate environmental concerns into all aspects of its work. The first part of the report deals with the World Bank's environmental agenda: assisting countries in environmental stewardship; financing adverse impact assessment and mitigation of World Bank projects; combining development and environment; addressing global environmental issues. Investments in water supply and sanitation are discussed under the heading 'development and environment'. The second part of the report focuses on the World Bank's capacity to deal with its environmental agenda and its co-operation and communication with the international community and development agencies. The annexes to the report contain a list of World Bank directives on environment, environmental projects and projects with environmental components.
