Abstract

The Water Resources Assessment Programme, developed in conjunction with the Mar del Plata Action plan, has been put into action world-wide to identify the major areas for improvement, assess current capabilities and needs, and to increase the availability of water resources information. This report, a joint effort of WMO and UNESCO, gives an overview of what types of information are presently available, and a strategy for the 1990's, including for the implementation. Advice is also given for the inclusion of water resource studies in relation to other development projects (such as urbanization or forest harvesting) for predicting subtle integrated long-term effects possibly damaging to the environment.
