Abstract | This summary report describes pre-investment studies conducted by WASH on four river basins tributary to the Danube river: the Yantra basin in Bulgaria, the Sajo-Hernad basin in Hungary, the Arges basin in Romania, and the Hornad basin in Slovakia. The WASH studies, conducted from September 1992 to May 1993 comprise the US contribution to several elements of the Three Year Action Plan adopted by the Danube riparian countries in September 1991. The purpose of these studies was to identify high-priority wastewater pollution control projects that could serve municipalities and industries within the four river basins. The report also includes the status on institutionalisation in the four countries in the computerised country databases and software for DEMDESS (the Danube Emissions Management Decision Support System). The report concludes with a number of cross-cutting issues and recommendations. |
