Full Text | Shubhash Chandro Shaha has worked in the bazaar for 12 years. He runs a small decorator business and has recently taken over operations of his late father's Sari shop with help from his son. Like most men who work or visit the bazaar, Shubash used to defecate in the open, on the side of the nearby pond hidden by coconut trees. Now he chooses to spend a few Taka and use the public latrine, as it is "practical, clean and convenient". On a cattle market day there is often a line to use the toilet. When asked if he waits or finds a coconut tree, Shubhash laughs, "I wait" he says. |
