Abstract

This project report presents five sanitation options for flood prone and high table water areas, and rocky soils in Bangladesh:

  • Modified urine diversion toilet (UDDT), forced dehydration
  • Offset seepage pit: double plastic drum system
  • Single plastic drum system
  • Single offset pit with biogas system
  • Step latrine

For each option, technical details are provided together with construction costs.

The report also looks into alternative construction materials (bamboo reinforced cement concrete, ferro cement, and sand envelopes) and several other potential options (Floating toilets, BoP potti: in-house toilets and Rottebehaelter (compost filter)).

A new potential design is presented, which is a combination of the Enviroloo, the Modified UDDT and the Rottebehaelter.

There are detailed annexes with design criteria and technical calculations.
