Abstract

An UNDP film about the International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade (IDWSSD). It asks how should the lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation be addressed? Alternatives shown include low-cost systems such as different kinds of hand pumps and latrines, and various methods of storing water. Among the explanations given for the problem of safe water supply and sanitation are a lack of money, an insufficient number of trained personnel, and the trade deficits of governments in developing countries.
