Arjina Khatun and her granddaughter Naher resting outside the female chamber and dressing room

Arjina Khatun lives in the house closest to the latrine and was appointed by the business association as the caretaker of the community latrine. She watches over the latrine, collects user fees and cleans the facilities. This is not a voluntary position; rather Arjina keeps a percentage of the collected money for her service, a small increase from her previous work as a cleaner of the cattle market.

Around 40% of the money collected is deposited into a specific account for major works in future, including sweeping of the septic tank every two to three years; the remainder is used for ongoing maintenance and cleaning products. The UP Chairman hopes the collected money will ultimately finance the construction of another latrine as the market expands.
