Abstract

This paper looks at the current rhetoric surrounding partnerships. Given that partnership language frames expectations, being honest about the challenges of multi-sector partnerships is the only way to ensure that partnerships are used most effectively. Thepaper discusses the vision and core complementary competencies. It puts trust against respect; voluntary against obligatory, and outputs against outcomes. The conclusion of the paper is that partnerships must be based on need and that there must be no uncertainty to the core business, or core interests.
