| Abstract | This publication represents the consolidated proceedings of the National Seminar on Rural Sanitation, which took place in New Delhi on July 7-8 1998. The meeting's main recommendations concerned the institutionalization of demand driven programmes, greater beneficiary participation, reductions in subsidy, an increase of people's participation in rural sanitation programmes, consistent reforms within the sector encouraging human resource development and an increased emphasis on intensive IEC activities. The seminar also recommended a greater effort in research and development activities in relation to developing safe and affordable technical options for rural sanitation. |
