Abstract

The first 2 chapters of this handbook discuss the importance of sanitation and how this can be promoted by the scouts and guides in their homes and the community. The next 4 chapters deal with the importance of safe water supply, proper disposal of waste water, of human excreta, and of animal dung and garbage. Personal hygiene and sanitation in the home are discussed as well as diarrhoea and guinea worm and how these common diseases can be prevented by improved sanitation.
