Abstract

IRC WASH, in partnership with the Amhara Region Water and Energy Bureau and Amhara Media Corporation, has been engaging in a media advocacy initiative to promote water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in Amhara region. This initiative, funded by Hilton Renewal Project, produced eight 30-minute programmes focusing on WASH and aired on Amhara Television. The programmes covered various WASH topics, including sustainability, finance, monitoring, and urban sanitation, with contributions from experts.

Despite challenges like regional security issues and limited resources, the initiative successfully engaged stakeholders and facilitated important discussions and broadcast through Amhara Television. The collaboration enhanced WASH advocacy, fostered ownership among regional leaders, and sparked interest from other organisations to further amplify the impact. The learning note documents these efforts, using content analysis and key informant interviews to evaluate the messages and their impact, serving as a guide for future media advocacy initiatives.
