Abstract

This policy brief, submitted to the Dutch Parliament, describes the government's development aid water programme for the years 2012-2015. The programme will focus on:

  • Efficient water use, especially in agriculture
  • Improved water basin management and safe deltas
  • Improved access to drinking water and sanitation

There will be intensive collaboration with both the public and private sector, involving as much as possible Dutch knowledge and expertise and linking up with Dutch "top sector" water in collaboration with the Minsitry of Infrastrcutue and Environment. The development aid budget for water will increase from €156 million in 2011 to €254 million in 2015.

In the brief, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs announces the allocation of €10 million to IRC for a new 5 year programme.
