Abstract

Position paper by EUREAU, the European Union of National Association of Water Suppliers, on the implications of the revisions in the 1993 WHO Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality on water suppliers, householders and manufacturers in Europe. A differentiation is made between the lifetime advisory guideline values of WHO and the maximumal admissible concentration (MAC) values of the EC Drinking Water Directive. The parameters of greatest concern are: lead, bromate, boron, arsenic, nickel, copper and antimony. Special attention is given to the cost of lead pipe replacement in member states.
