Abstract

The report presents a comprehensive approach to solid waste and wastewater management and a methodology that an assessment team could use to determine the effectiveness of solid waste and wastewater management. The document is based on the premise that approaches using conventional technologies and strict enforcement of regulations will not work in developing countries. The approach which is presented stresses the promotion of affordable technologies along with supportive policy instruments which influence the behaviour of the target groups (individual and institutions) and strengthened institutional capacity. Specific guidance is offered on how to conduct an assessment.
