Abstract

Under WaterAid Bangladesh's Advancing Sustainable Environmental Health (ASEH) programme new methods of providing sanitation in densely populated urban slums have had to be implemented. Community latrines are the principle development. At the mid point of ASEH, the consultants were contracted to show what could be learned about community latrines from a usage, technical and programmatic/institutional standpoint. All aspects were considered
largely successful and key recommendations made on some design aspects, on better hygiene and behavioural integration, and on helping CBOs to develop. [authors abstract]
