Abstract

Investigation of the fog water potential along the West Coast of South Africa for the provision of water to water-poor communities. The temporal and spatial aspects of fog water collection rates were investigated. Pilot fog collectors were erected at six West Coast sites and the water collection rates measured over a three to four year period. Findings were that fog incidence is mostly occurring only in the coastal zone below the 200 m contour line with fog frequency decreasing with latitude within this zone. The water collected from fog is of good quality and can be used for human consumption.
