Abstract

This report presents the results of an environmental assessment of various alternatives for the collection and disposal of solid waste from Port-au-Prince as part of the USAID emergency programme. Recommendations are given to mitigate any negative environmental effects from the proposed activities. The report stresses that any negative measures proposed are very much temporary in nature and that a more long term view is needed to solve the major problems faced in the solid waste sector.
