Abstract

A study was carried out to test whether potash alum (0.05 per cent) was able to decontaminate shallow well water stored in household tanks (160 litres). It was conducted in 100 households (50 in the intervention and 50 in the control group) of a suburban community in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma). After alum was added, the contamination level of water decreased on the 2nd and 3rd day.
