Abstract

'Education for Development' is an approach to learning which aims to build global citizenship. It involves more than organizing knowledge around a set of global concepts. It is also a methodology, with learning processes that are distinct from those often used in traditional subject areas of the curriculum. It aims to help young people make the link between global issues such as violence, poverty, hunger, prejudice, and environmental degradation and local concerns and shows how they can apply what they learn to their own lives and communities. The manual deals with Interdepence; Images and perceptions; Social justice; Conflict and conflict resolution; and Change and the future. Each chapter first explains why teaching about the subject is important, gives some key concepts and the aims and objectives. The illustrations and photocopiable materials provide teachers of all subjects and all levels with exciting and practical classroom activities that can be integrated into the existing curriculum.
