| Abstract | In 2002, the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg called for all countries to draw up national IWRM plans as a means of moving towards water security. In response, GWP established the Programme for National IWRM Planning in Africa (or IWRM Programme) to work with governments and stakeholders in African countries in drawing up national IWRM plans. Between 2005 and 2010, the Programme involved the mobilisation of many stakeholders and generated useful lessons for both facilitating IWRM planning and other national development processes.
