Abstract

The Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA) water supply and sanitation sector includes urban and rural water supply, sanitation and sewerage services, health and hygiene promotion, and water resources assessment and protection. DANIDA's sector policies are presented in the report, which outlines the Danish government's stand on such isues as sustainability, the involvement of women, appropriate technology, community participation, institutional strengthening and other development issues. Sixty-three percent of DANIDA-supported water supply and sanitation projects in developing countries are rural water supply projects, 34% are urban water supply, and the remaining 3% are urban sewerage projects.
