Abstract | This draft technical note presents a simplified analytical tool, based on cost/benefit analysis, for evaluating proposed community water supply projects. The computer model evaluates and compares the costs of alternative pumping technologies (hand pumps, electric, diesel, solar and wind pumps) and types of water supply (handpump systems, public standposts and yard taps). The model estimates the benefits from time savings that are derived from improved levels of service and from increased water use. A user guide and documentation of the model are presented in annexes. The model has been written in Microsoft Quick Basic for IBM compatible PCs. Lotus 123 software is required to produce graphic output. |
