Volume II of the report covers the supporting tables, appendixes and annexures. The exploratory study emphasizes the need for community involvement to ensure continuous benefits of development programmes. It analyses the contribution of participation towards the creation of sustainable and effectively utilized water systems. Despite the growing awareness regarding the need for community involvement, very little systematic information is available from the field on community organization to aid decision makers in making informed policy choices. The key objective of this study is to examine the impact of agency-specific water supply interventions at the community level. The focal point of the analysis for this report is an evaluation of the structures and organisational systems associated with effective water user groups, and the factors that hinder or support their role in management of water supply schemes. The report also highlights the role of the key stakeholders and their incentives for participation in the sector to distinguish factors that influence the performance of water schemes. Volume II of the report contains thematic case studies and the supporting tables, appendices and annexures of the study in the first volume. It summarizes the different phases of a water project and gives a socio-economic profile of the area. It also highlights the various methodological tools of data collection and the principles behind each instrument that was used for data collection.
