Abstract | Against the background of the fact that by the year 2000, there will be 23 cities with populations over the 10 million mark (so called megacities), eighteen of which will be in developing countries, this video explores the problems that are now being encountered in New Delhi, India, Bangkok, Thailand, and Manila, The Philippines. Each of these cities has specific problems that are discussed. In New Delhi, the video focuses on the problems of slum areas and how community participation plays a role in alleviating (water and sanitation) problems. The public enemy number one in Bankok is the traffic problem. In Manila, the video dwells on efforts to clean-up the Pasig river. |
