Abstract

This manual is designed to aid in the construction of a wire-reinforced, jar-shaped ferrocement water tank. This method is well-suited for tanks with a volume of 600 L or more. It was written for people without extensive engineering or construction experience. Therefore, certain tasks, such as determining the shape of the tank, have been simplified.
The manual includes specific guidance on constructing tanks up to 20,000 L. Tanks larger than 20,000 L can be built using similar methods. However, a few adjustments would need to be made during design and construction. Part A of this manual offers general guidance for constructing a jar-shaped, wire-reinforced ferrocement tank. Part B details the specific steps and calculations for building a 5,000 L jar.
For those with more experience, or more interest, the full design processes are explained in the appendices.[abstract taken from the manual]

This manual was finalised through a participatory community-based training in Barangay Saloy, Calinan District, Davao City, Philippines July 27–August 1, 2005 in partnership with CRS/Philippines and the Josefa Segovia Foundation.
