L'objectif de ce document de travail est d'offrir un support conceptuel à l'analyse du rapport coût-efficacité des interventions de promotion d'hygiène. Il introduit la notion de niveaux d'efficacité comme outil d'analyse et de comparaison des coûts et des résultats des interventions d'hygiène. Il gagne à être lu à la suite du Document de travail 2, Échelle d'évaluation du coût et de la qualité des services d'eau potable (Moriarty et al., Novembre 2011), qui explore la notion de niveaux de services appliqué à l'eau potable, et du Document de travail 3, Évaluation des niveaux de services d'assainissement (Potter et al., Juillet 2011)1 qui fait de même pour l'assainissement.
