Rutger joined IRC in 2006 as section head of the information and communications team. He developed IRC's first Monitoring Protocol, was the Project Coordinator of the WASH Cost Project for five years and later became the Chief Operations. Currently he is the Chief Financial Officer.
Rutger has spent the past 15 years contributing to the transformation of IRC into a proactive think and do tank with its own country programs.
Rutger has a bachelor's degree in International Land and Water Management, with a final thesis on Human Waste Disposal in Refugee Settlements. He has over ten years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency assistance, working in implementation, advising and managerial functions for international NGOs in Mozambique, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India and Sudan.
