René is senior program manager and joined IRC in 2003. René is WASH generalist with a technical background and more than 30 years of experience, which ranges from developing urban infrastructure to participatory appraisals with community members; from action research to piloting biological wastewater treatment plants. He started at IRC as manager of the Resource Centre Development program that aimed to create national networks for sector learning. Thereafter René managed for more than 3 years the Asia regional program and for 3 years the Uganda country program, for which he was based in Kampala. After returning from Uganda in 2013, René focuses mainly on work in Sierra Leone (knowledge management), Kenya (local water governance in arid lands) and Uganda (sector monitoring).
