René is senior program manager and a WASH generalist with long experience as manager of programmes and projects and in the role of WASH expert. René is by education a sanitary engineer and has more than 30 years of experience. His expertise ranges from developing urban infrastructure to participatory appraisals with community members; from action research of rural water supply service delivery models to piloting biological wastewater treatment plants. He started 16 years ago at IRC as manager of the Resource Centre Development program that aimed to create national networks for sector learning. Thereafter René managed for more than 3 years the Asia regional program and for 3 years the Uganda country program, for which he was based in Kampala. More recently, René's time is divided between monitoring IRC's WASH System strengthening approach and managing a multi-country capacity development programme for policy influencing in WASH and WRM services by civil society.
