Jo is a Senior Programme Officer in the IRC Africa Team, with more than 30 years experience in Africa and Asia, and a focus on water services and human waste management. He is a sanitary engineer (MSc, Delft), specialising in rural and urban water supply and sanitation. Jo's work focuses on sustainable development of systems and services including policy and strategy development, institutional and organisational development, governance and management options, hygiene and sanitation behavioural aspects, M&E systems, water supply technology, pollution control, water quality control and public health aspects, sanitation and water treatment technology, O&M system development, SME involvement, self-supply, structures and systems for local knowledge and information management.
Jo's skills capacities include multi-stakeholder learning process facilitation, action and learning research, knowledge management, facilitation of capacity building process (seminars, workshops), training courses and curriculum development, project appraisal, review and evaluation.
Ability to combine broad WASH technology system knowledge with good analytical and practical skills; this ability has proven very useful for the development of context-sound strategies and systems for institutional, organisation and management structures in a decentralised environment and for building national and local capacities.
