This master plan contains the broad vision, programmes and strategies of the Asutifi North District, Ghana, and its key development partners for the implementation of a 13-year initiative called the Asutifi North District Ahonidie Mpontuo (ANAM) or Clean Asutifi North Initiative. ANAM seeks to promote universal access to safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene services to about 84,423 people by the year 2030. The master plan is informed by guidelines of the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana, and framed within targets of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6). The master plan provides a framework for coordinating and aligning efforts of all actors towards achieving the stated goal and vision for WASH in the District. Contributors to the plan include the National Development Planning Commission, IRC, Safe Water Network, World Vision International, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), chiefs, and the Asutifi North District Assembly.
Following the introduction, the plan provides a profile of Asutifi North District and an analysis of the challenges related to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and water resources management. Strategic actions to deal with these challenges, based on population projections and the targets for 2030, are elaborated. The remaining chapters focus on what is required to the implement the master plan in terms of partnerships, communication and advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and costs.
