Abstract

The purpose of this meeting was to provide guidance on how to create and operationalize the World Water Council. After reviewing available background information, the Interim Founding Committee prepared an outline of the form of the World Water Council and its mission statement, objectives, a strategic framework and scope of activities. The Interim Founding Committee also reached consensus on the organizations from whom the membership would be drawn as well as on the governance of the World Water Council. The mission statement of the World Water Council is to promote awareness about critical water issues at all levels including the highest decision-making level, and to facilitate the efficient protection, development, planning, management and use of global water on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all people.
