Abstract

Under the Yacupaj Project water and sanitation demonstration projects were implemented in Potosi department. These projects included innovative aspects: involvement of government institutions at provincial level in the execution, monitoring, and evaluation of the projects; community self-management; intervention as a response to the demand generated at community level; the establishment of a financial policy ensuring effective contributions from the community aiming at the sustainability of the facilities and a better distribution of finances; the promotion of the role of women at decision making level; the promotion of hygiene behaviour change through health education; the use of appropriate technology developed in the country; ensuring improved monitoring, evaluation and documentation system; capacity building at community, NGO, and government level; ensuring sustainability of installations through capacity building in operation and maintenance. The report also presents quantitative data on project achievements.
