Want to know all about the WASH system strengthening approach? From September, the free general course 'WASH system strengthening: the basics' will be available on the WASH Systems Academy.
The academy is an interactive platform to assist WASH sector professionals apply a WASH systems strengthening approach. If you are at the start of your career or are a senior WASH expert that wants to understand what a systems strengthening approach is all about and how you can integrate it in your work, this free online course is for you.
The general course takes on average 16 hours and is to be completed in 2 weeks. At the end of the course, you will understand the WASH systems strengthening approach. The course contains the key concepts of the approach and has cases and examples where the approach is used.
• Duration: 16 hours for completion within 2 weeks
• Content: water, sanitation and hygiene
• Availability: several times a year starting from September
• The general course consists 10 sessions which take between 1-2 hours to complete.
The general course's learning objectives are to understand the WASH systems strengthening approach:
• What is it?
• How and why it was developed?
• How to start applying it
Each session in the general course has specific learning objectives, which are outlined at the start of each session.
Monitoring your progress
Every time you complete an activity such as listening to a podcast, watching an animation, taking a quiz or passing the final test at the end of the course, you will receive credits and badges (see below).
The course ends with a multiple-choice test. If you complete all the activities in all the sessions and get 80% or more right in the test, you can download a digital certificate to add to your LinkedIn or Facebook profile.
However, the learning does not have to stop here. You can expand your knowledge by using the extra materials in each module. They include fact sheets, working papers, briefing notes, tools and training materials for face-to-face training. All resources can be downloaded.

The general course 'WASH system strengthening: the basics' contains the following sessions:
Delivering water and sanitation services that last relies on a complex network of people and factors to work together effectively. In other words, it needs a strong WASH system in place. Strong WASH systems can only be built together.
Registration for the basic course will begin in September. Partners of the Hilton Foundation and Agenda for Change (A4C) are welcome to test a Beta version of the Academy from June.
