The European Commission (EC) and the government have signed agreements for the Kampala Sanitation Programme to which the EC gave about 7 million euros (Shs17.5 billion) and the Mapping of Ground Water Resources to which the EC has contributed more than 1.5 million euros (Shs3.5 billion).

The sanitation programme will cover parts of metropolitan Kampala, in particular the poor residents of slums and peri-urban settlements, particularly those with on-site sanitation facilities.

Funds for both projects were made available under the ACP-EU Water Facility.
