During a virtual meeting on June 18 called by the Honduran Association of Water and Sanitation Service Providers (AHPSAS) to discuss the current WASH situation in the country, participants nominated deputy Martínez as their ambassador.

Honduras is facing a number of challenges in the current COVID-19 pandemic such as: lack of a mechanism for financial assistance and credit to service providers, limited access to technical assistance, insufficient support for the effective operation of the institutional framework, poor quality and level of service provided to the population, low level of public investments, and weak water governance.

Representatives of the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA) who also run the technical secretariat of the National Council for Drinking Water and Sanitation (CONASA), the coordinator of the movement Everyone Forever (PTPS), officials from the Regulatory Body for Drinking Water and Sanitation Services (ERSAPS), and officials from some of the service providers asked the deputy for his support in presenting a draft bill to the National Congress. Through this bill, Government can prioritise the WASH sector and provide all the necessary support for a proper functioning sector which is then able to provide the required services to ensure the health and well-being of the Honduran population.

SANAA, CONASA, ERSAPS, and AHPSAS are active members of the PTPS movement, which facilitates WASH system strengthening processes for achieving SDG 6 in Honduras.
