In order to introduce the WASHTech project to the actors in the WASH sector, the project country team organized a workshop on July 14th 2011 at CREPA HQ.  In addition to introducing the project to the country WASH actors, this meeting allowed the team to collect information on the competences, behaviours and practices related to the introduction.  Other topics of discussion included on the enhancement of WASH facilities and approaches in Burkina Faso e.g. the decision making processes and the roles of the different stakeholders.  It was noted that existing regulations governing the introduction and the promotion of new facilities have not been fully implemented.

The dissemination of new facilities is often dependent on the marketing power of the operators and the acceptance by communities based on their urgent needs.  Therefore,  participants encouraged the WASHTech team to set up and implement the Technical Assessment Framework (TAF) to address these difficulties. Additionally, they expressed their willingness to contribute to this process. Through group and individual exercises, the participants mapped out the current state of the most used formal water and sanitation facilities in Burkina to serve as a basis for the TAF development process.
