The Guardian | By Katherine Purvis Long considered a symbol of development aid, up to 40% of handpumps in sub-Saharan Africa are broken at any one time. "The method whereby agencies go in and just put boreholes in without the necessary support structures has to end," says Casey. A coalition of NGOs – including WaterAid, IRC and Water for People – are working towards the Agenda for Change, a plan to transform how rural water supplies are provided. "It's about working with national systems, supporting where changes or adjustments to those systems need to be made, and really pushing to get these sustainable water supply services in place," says Casey. "There's a momentum gathering and we'd like more NGOs to come onboard with the principles." Published 22 March 2016.
EA Magazine | How does a typical day of an IRC employee look like? Catarina Fonseca kept a diary for EA, the alumni magazine of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Sam Sam | The Hague TV and FM | The Netherlands In The Hague, IRC celebrated World Toilet Day with the children of group 8 of the Den Hertog Primary School. Erick, our sanitation expert, very eloquently explained to a classroom filled with 12-year olds what IRC does and why. After that, the class went to record a videoclip on a toilet song! (for the Dutch: it was a song of "Kinderen voor Kinderen"). Two journalists were present to cover the event: children's magazine Sam Sam and The Hague TV and FM. The video clip and a nice recap can be found here.
