This webinar will explore drivers behind the emergence of rural utility models, institutional arrangements and ways to strengthen accountability under such models.

Rural populations are increasingly served by larger utility-like service providers. Such utilities come in different shapes, sizes, ownership and mandates, providing an expected pathways to more sustainable services. 

This webinar will explore drivers behind the emergence of rural utility models, institutional arrangements and ways to strengthen accountability under such models. Based on examples from Africa and Eastern Europe, the conversation will explore the opportunities and challenges for such rural utilities. We will hear voices from UNICEF in Ethiopia, from Water for All in Rwanda, from a SDC funded Water and Sanitation Project in Moldova – ApaSan as well as from WaterAid, Worldbank and IRC.
 
Speakers include: Jane Bevan (UNICEF), Corina Andronic (APASAN – SDC Project), Bruce Uwonkunda (Water For People), Bethlehem Mengistu (Water Aid) and Angie Saleh (UNICEF).
